I had a most enjoyable day at this society’s first open show. It was a well organised & superbly run show with every attention to detail. There was a good size ring very well set out for audience viewing & participation making for a lovely atmosphere.
All the dogs present were in clean condition & well presented, all had lovely sound temperaments. Some attention is needed to watch strength of movement in the younger stock, the breadth of hindquarters & the overall angulations.

PD (3) 1 Hammond & Francis’ Xsepshunall Merlot of Southmead, nearly out of puppy & at his age felt he was the better balanced with a clean outline, preferred his head shape & lovely alert eye, good neck to shoulder & lovely depth of chest, short loin with nice tuck, well presented flat l/w ticked jacket, in super muscletone, good angles & bone, tight round feet. Once settled moved out freely. Would have liked little more width behind. BPD;

Correct overall outline with good depth of chest & brisket, firm short back, well presented flashy l/w spotted harsh flat coat. Lacking in strength of bottom, stifle & muscletone at present. Needing a handler, but once settled moved into a good stride & was sound;
2 K Gift Wrapped, of medium size but little long cast. Would have liked a better head shape, lower set of ears spoils his expression, lacking in depth of chest & body. Straight correctly boned legs & compact feet, best class mover, very sound with free fluid stride;

Working B (2) 1 Field’s Deephatch Pocana, placed in the strong PGB class. Very feminine with quality & type, smart outline showing her overall balance, sweet head & soft expression, strong well muscled neck into well laid shoulders & topline to good tailset, excellent angles & depth to well laid shoulders & topline to good tailset, excellent angles & depth to forechest, good body condition & ribs well back into short loin with neat tuck-up, coarse well conditioned liver ticked coat, straight boned legs & tight feet. It is a shame the owner cannot handle this nice bitch to advantage as it is so easy to lose the good points. A sound bitch once settled into stride.
VB (5) 1 Gardiner’s Kilnrae Gretel, at 9 1⁄2 years this bitch has still retained her type & quality plus being so sound on the move, presents a lovely picture on the move with her overall balance & correct points. Just starting to shows her age. Her eyes are dark & bright, good neck, shoulders& well angulated front, good depth of chest & a body of substance, well ribbed into a short loin, nice tuck-up, well positioned elbows, straight well boned legs,
round tight feet, free striding action & sound both ends. Just felt the dog had the edge on ground coverage in the challenge. BOSV;
2 Whitworth’s Bryburn Suesanna of Pitwit, 71⁄2 years with a nice outline, size, shape & of good type, well shaped & developed pretty head, but would have liked more strength of muzzle. Kind eye & expression, well set ears, well angled both ends with depth, well ribbed back, short loin, neat tuck-up, very well presented & conditioned l/w ticked textured jacket, straight well boned legs & feet, well muscled quarters, neat hocks, sound positive mover with stride;
3 Smalls’ Tilmoray Tabetha, nearly 111⁄2 years, grand old lady.

I was honoured to judge these classes at the society’s first open show.
J 1 Beverley’s Vinita Lil Miss Jenni Jai, 6 months puppy bitch, short backed, standing over plenty of ground, on very best of feet, excellent coat texture, in good order, good sloping shoulder & well ambulated at rear, movement excellent for such a young puppy, reach & drive, very together. I would just prefer more foreface to balance her head, hopefully this will come; 2 Flaherty & Reddyhough’s Isara Kurzhaar Weiser, liked this 11 months puppy a lot. Very different style of dog to 1. Liked his head, lovely clean lines, again short backed & standing over his ground on good tight feet, correct coat in good order. My style of dog, but needs to settle on the move, should have a bright future.
O 1 Taylor’s Koolwaters On Moonlight Bay over Pelenrise, lovely bitch, hard to fault, just coming into her own. Balanced & feminine, fits the Standard to a T, moved really well. In my opinion she should go all the way. Seems like too little to say, but she is good all through. Best Overall; 2 Stefman’s Indijazz Grand Designer, dog who I have liked before, & still do. Short backed, good feet, correct topline, carried on the move, lovely dark eye & melting expression.
Ch 1 Rose’s Kavacanne Gift Of The Gab, like this bitch very much indeed & have awarded her top honours before. She is my style of GSP but she wasn’t as fluid on the move as usual; 2 Whitehouse’s Kazanpaul Boubon Cream, 10 years bitch, I think she’s beautiful, I wish I’d been able to judge her when she was younger. I’ve admired her from ringside & it was a pleasure to go over her.
