The below has been drawn up and agreed by the committee to set a process when selecting judges for our shows, so the process is clear and transparent to the committee and it’s members.
Basic Principles:
- We will ensure we follow KC rules and regulations regarding the selection of judges for both open and championship shows, thus ensuring appropriate eligibility.
- We will always endeavour to select judges who, as far as can be determined, have demonstrated neutrality and objectivity when judging.
- We will ensure we select judges by demonstrating our principles of equity over time. For example, we will select judges of different ages, genders and backgrounds to encourage fairness in outcomes.
- We will actively promote aspiring judges in our breed encouraging them and supporting them to attain further appropriate eligibility.
Selection Process: (to take place at the designated Committee meeting)
- Committee meeting agendas will clearly indicate to Committee members when judges for forthcoming shows are to be selected.
- The Secretary will invite all Committee members to propose judges (to be discussed by the Committee) to them one week before the meeting so that all members are given equal opportunity to consider individuals and put names forward.
- During the said agenda item, all names put forward will be declared by the Secretary and then discussed in turn on merit, thus allowing intelligence about those proposed to be shared (as appropriate) and initial opinions formed.
- Depending on the nature of the show in question (and upon examination of previous judges appointed by the Central and Southern Society Committee) the Committee will decide whether to appoint a breed specialist or all rounder taking account of the agreed basic principles as outlined earlier in this document.
- After initial discussion a shortlist of names will be agreed from those proposed. For practical purposes the shortlist will not exceed a maximum of 6 names.
- Each Committee member will then vote, at the meeting, for their own choice. Each name will be read in turn in alphabetical order and votes cast at the meeting for one name only.
- In the event of a tie the voting process will be repeated only for those who attained and shared the most number of votes.
- If, on the second occasion, the vote remains tied the vote of the Chair will be the casting vote.
