I had a most enjoyable day at this society’s first open show. It was a well organised & superbly run show with every attention to detail. There was a good size ring very well set out for audience viewing & participation making for a lovely atmosphere.

All the dogs present were in clean condition & well presented, all had lovely sound temperaments. Some attention is needed to watch strength of movement in the younger stock, the breadth of hindquarters & the overall angulations.

BIS was Sh Ch Barleyarch Farthing at Drysika, what a lovely dog to go over, of correct medium size& type, well balanced & in super condition with good muscletone, masculine clean cut head, lovely skull & strength of jaw, open wide nostrils, broad high set ears & dark soft expressive from well shaped eyes, moderately long well arched neck, clean shoulders & short firm level topline, broad bottom& hip to a docked tailset carried correctly, well conditioned flat coarse l/w ticked coat over a well ribbed back body with short loin with tuck-up, lovely depth of chest & brisket, nice width between elbows held well on straight correctly boned legs & compact feet, excellent bend of stifle& short hocks held well, super sound mover both ends, very stylish with good ground covering stride;

RBIS, Sh Ch/Dutch Ch Kavacanne Gift Of The Gab, a cracking & very stylish lady full of quality, such good type, so well put together to give that overall balance & build, stunning well developed head with appealing eyes of good colour, strong arched neck, clean well laid shoulders, firm topline to good tailset, strong hips & thighs, well developed well muscled hindquarters, correctly angulated forequarters with depth & enough width to chest & brisket, lovely body, well ribbed with depth, short loin& gentle tuck, such a nice texture to coarse l/w ticked coat, good straight bone from well held elbows, strong tight feet, short hocks, a positive mover, sound with great ground covering side gait;

BP, Seasham Lovestruck, well named as I must have been love struck. Just 10 months & a star in the making, certainly developing in every aspect as she should be. Most beautiful well shaped clean head with such a pretty expression from kind dark eyes, lovely ears for shape & set & used to advantage, great nose piece, head held& carried well on longish neck well laid into sloping clean shoulders & following on into a firm short back & moulded rump with well set on & carried tail, substance & depth to a well ribbed back body with a short loin & good tuck- up, lovely front assembly, depth of chest & brisket, nicely positioned & held elbows to straight moderately boned legs & round tight feet, super hindquarter with strength in hips & stifle & good muscletone, beautiful conditioned & presented l/w ticked harsh coat, great ground covering stride & her soundness made for an easy decision;

BV, Jennaline Hugh Dunnit, a few years ago I gave this lovely 7 years dog BIS at a large open show, he has matured well & retained his lovely overall balanced outline. Super masculine head so well shaped, lovely eye colour & still retaining soft expression, high set ears used to advantage, super arched neck of good length into clean shoulders & firm short back with topline held well, broad hips to nice tail carriage, great body substance with ribs well back, good tuck-up, nice flat harsh l/w ticked jacket in super condition, correctly angulated both ends, well muscled hindquarters & neat hocks held well, very stylish mover.

MPD (0).

PD (3) 1 Hammond & Francis’ Xsepshunall Merlot of Southmead, nearly out of puppy & at his age felt he was the better balanced with a clean outline, preferred his head shape & lovely alert eye, good neck to shoulder & lovely depth of chest, short loin with nice tuck, well presented flat l/w ticked jacket, in super muscletone, good angles & bone, tight round feet. Once settled moved out freely. Would have liked little more width behind. BPD;
2 Flaherty & Reddyhough’s Isara Kurzhaar Wieser, one month younger & needing to develop in his head. Correct overall outline with good depth of chest & brisket, firm short back, well presented flashy l/w spotted harsh flat coat. Lacking in strength of bottom, stifle & muscletone at present. Good bone, but needs to strengthen in front& in feet. Good side stride;
3 Gain & Dixon’s Kavacanne Gift Wrapped.

JD (1) 1 Holmes’ Roovis Beretta Baxter, nearly 15 months & going through that rangy stage, not as balanced as I would like. Masculine clean cut head. Would like more length of neck & better depth of chest. Enough body, but needing substance. In coarse flat coat, well muscled throughout with enough front & rear angulations, nice straight forelegs. A little long in hocks. Once settled moved out sound enough with stride.

ND (3) 1 Field’s Lehaunstown Cure The Blues of Deephatch, very nice balance of good type & much more mature & finished in this class. Lovely head shape, super eye colour & well placed ears, strong arched neck &clean shoulders. Carrying far too much weight which did spoil his outline. Good depth of chest, good fore angles, straight correctly boned legs & feet. Would have liked more return of stifle. Well muscled. Needing a handler, but once settled moved into a good stride & was sound;
2 K Gift Wrapped, of medium size but little long cast. Would have liked a better head shape, lower set of ears spoils his expression, lacking in depth of chest & body. Well presented & conditioned flat coarse l/w coat, correctly boned straight legs. Flat feet which need to tighten. Enough angluations both ends & well muscled, moved out well with more style this time around;
3 Rooves’ Bereta Baxter.

PGD (7) 1 Hammond’s Seaham Jumpin Jack Flash, lovely size & outline with good overall balance, masculine clean cut head with nice well developed skull & correct jaw, super eye colour, shape & soft expression, lovely well used high set on ears, head carried on moderately long arched neck into cleanly laid shoulder, firm topline to a broad hip & well set on & carried tail, lovely body depth, well ribbed short loin with good tuck-up, deep forechest with correct angulation, super harsh flat l/w ticked coat in lovely condition, good width between elbows & body, straight lean bone, nearly straight pasterns & tight round feet, correct bend of stifle, well muscled, short hocks, very positive stylish smooth reach & so sound both ends. RBD;
2 Porter’s Valgar Odin, not the overall balance & development of 1 & for his age lacking maturity & muscletone. Masculine head, but a little too long in foreface. Good neck & well laid back shoulder into level firm topline to well set on & carried docked tail. Lacking in depth of chest & brisket. Good bodyline& tuck, well presented l/w ticked coarse jacket, enough fore & rear angulation, straight well boned legs, strong pasterns & tight feet, well bent stifle. Slightly narrow behind, but with good fluid stride & sound at front;
3 Schoneville’s Balvenie Little Wonder.

LD (6) 1 Soanes’ Kazanpaul Sticky Toffee Pud of Whistlecraft, slightly on the taller side but with a lovely clean outline & correctly balanced for his build & so well muscled throughout. Clean well developed head spoilt by a slightly longer muzzle. Eye shape, colour & earset gave for a lovely soft expression, strong arched neck, clean shoulders & firm backline to broad hips & well set & carried tail, well ribbed body with depth, depth of chest & brisket, super harsh texture to his l/w ticked flat jacket, nice front & rear angles with good muscletone. Straight correctly boned legs & compact feet, best class mover, very sound with free fluid stride;
2 Stedmans’ Indijazz Grand Design, smaller but very well balanced & of lovely type, correctly shaped & moulded masculine head with nice earset& eye shape giving alert expression, good length of neck & front angulation. Would have liked more depth of chest, well bodied & ribbed, covered in solid jet black well conditioned harsh coat, sraight correctly boned legs & tight feet, well muscled & bent stifles. Not the stride or as sound as 1;
3 Burgess & Field’s Adhemar Breock.

OD (5) 1 Drysdale’s Sh Ch Barleyarch Farthing at Drysika. BIS; 2 Blay & Bird’s Sh Ch Koolwaters Accolade, very stylish 7 years l/w ticked of lovely size, shape, overall balance & type, well constructed masculine head. Just preferred overall balance of 1’s head. Nice eye shape & colour, well set on ears, open nostrils with slight damage. Super strength of neck & firmly held backline over a short back with good depth, well ribbed back with nice tuck-up, well angulated front with depth & good return of stifle, well muscled, straight boned legs, well held elbows, strong compact feet, stylish& sound mover; 3 Cardnos’ Am Ch/Can Ch Mombardie Bulkley De Le Poseur.

Working D (0).

VD (5) 1 Smith’s Jennaline Hugh Dunnit, very stylish mover, best in the class. BV, close decision for RBD;
2 Porter’s Jennaline Jock Ahoy Mackoy, at 91⁄2 years this boy is certainly retaining his good looks, very nice type with lovely size & outline. Just preferred the more masculine head of 1. Lovely strength & length of neck, firm backline, good depth of chest. A fraction narrower at front than 1. Well developed body with substance & depth, nice tuck & short loin, well presented l/w ticked harsh jacket, enough angles both ends, moved off good legs & feet with a sound fluid stride;
3 Cook& Lambs’ Adhemar Break Of Day.

MPB (3) 1 Harris’ Barleyarch Peanut, very smart & pretty 6 months l/w ticked coarse coat who just looks all bitch, super balance & outline & of lovely size & overall balance, very pretty well balanced clean head shape. Would maybe like a little more strength to foreface, but this will come with time & development. Lovely eye colour & sweet expression, neat high set on well used ears, well bodied & angled with enough substance, well ribbed back, short loin & nice tuck-up, well presented coat, straight boned forelegs& neat round feet, correct bend of stifle, moved out with style with sound movement & good stride;
2 Beverley’s Vinitas Lil Miss Jenni Jai, another 6 months bitch slightly taller & longer in cast than 1 & so not as well balanced. Pretty head, but light eyes spoilt expression although well shaped. Good ear shape set on & used well, head carried well on longish neck. Needing to firm in topline & a little long in loin but with good tuck-up. Enough bone on straight legs to round feet. Moved out a little close both ends, but soundly with enough stride.
PB (5) 1 Hammonds’ Seasham Lovestruck. BP;
2 Harris’ Barleyarch Piper, another stunning youngster just slightly taller & not quite as compact but nevertheless a very pretty bitch with a nice outline. Sweet well moulded head, good jaw a fraction finer than 1. Good skull shape, kind dark eyes & used high set on ears. Would like
more depth of chest, enough brisket depth & body substance with short loin & tuck-up, lovely angles both ends with well developed muscletone, good straight bone & tight round feet. very positive on the move with good side stride & sound. Just a fraction closer than 1;
3 Town’s Indijazz Truly Scrumptious.

JB (2) 1 S Lovestruck;

Well shaped eyes, but light colour spoils her expression. Good head carriage & nice neck & shoulder, firm backline& well shaped rear, well carried tail. Would have liked more depth of chest& a better upper arm. Lovely body substance with ribs well back & with tuck, good bend of stifle & hocks well developed, well presented & continued harsh l/w ticked coat, enough bone on straight legs, strong pasterns& round feet. Moved out well, but runs a little narrow behind & lacked the stride of 1.

NB (4) 1 K Kiss My Apple;
2 Blay & Bird’s Seasham Indian Sunset over Koolwaters, not as balanced or as compact as 1 & much ranger. Feminine in head with nice skull& earset, but a fraction finer in muzzle. Well shaped eyes spoilt by lightness of colour. Good strength of neck, firm backline albeit a little longer. Well bodied & ribbed with a longer loin & tuck, enough depth of chest with enough angulation, strength in hindquarters with good bend of stifle, straight boned legs & tight feet. She was very unsettled & unsteady in PB. More settled here & although she threw her front around she showed a stride. Running narrow behind, but with time she will settle;
3 V Lil Miss Jenni Jai.

PGB (14) Super class. 1 Schoneville’s Balvenie Midnight Rambler, a slightly bigger girl but with overall balance & a lovely type outline, so nice to look at on the stance. Very feminine head of correct shape, eye colour could be darker but has a soft expression & good earset. Good neck which flowed into her clean shoulders& firm short backline, strong thighs & good tailset, well angulated fore & aft with depth to her chest, brisket & well ribbed back body with substance & depth, straight well boned leg & pasterns, good tight feet, well presented flash l/w coat in harsh condition lovely fluid stride& sound both ends;
2 Drysdale’s Barleyarch Tracker at Drysika, a lovey type to this bitch with a super outline & overall balance, well presented coarse well marked l/w coat over a body of substance with depth & well ribbed back to a short loin with gentle tuck-up, sweet well shaped head, very feminine lovely eye colour & soft expression, nice ears set well on head, good angles both ends & well muscled throughout, elbows held well, good straight well boned legs & feet, another very sound positive mover with good ground coverage. Hard to split these two;
3 Whitworth’s Fireworth Firenze.

LB (9) 1 Taylor’s Koolwaters On Moonlight Bay at Pelenrise, another beautiful bitch, so well developed & with outstanding overall balance, of good type, on the stance stands proud with a lovely feminine look. Liked her head development, but would like a little more strength of muzzle & length. Lovely neck shape & well laid back shoulders. Firm topline which she sometimes allows to dip, but her qualities could not be denied this spot. Short back, good tailset, excellent depth & width of chest, well ribbed & bodied with substance, good angles, both front & rearquarters well muscled, lovely texture to her l/w ticked coat, straight bone, good feet from which she moved out freely & very soundly with style & drive;
2 Rose & Gaffney’s Kavacanne Toff We Go, very feminine heavily ticked & well textured coat, very similar in build to 1 but just not the same bone. OB (4) 1 Sh Ch/Dutch Ch Kavacanne Gift Of The Gab. RBIS, BOS;
2 Hammond’s Seasham Follosophy, I see she is the dam of my BP & I know now where her daughter gets her good looks. Super outline of good height & overall balance, very feminine well shaped head, good skull & muzzle, sweet expression from dark well shaped eyes & neat well placed ear held & used well, good neck, topline & tailset, correctly angulated front & depth & width to chest, well bodied. Just carrying a little weight making her look a little heavy. Super straight boned legs & tight round feet, moderate bend of stifle well muscled, short hocks, well presented l/w ticked jacket of good texture. Moved well with stride fraction wide at front, but sound;
3 Blay & Bird’s Koolwaters Chaos.

Working B (2) 1 Field’s Deephatch Pocana, placed in the strong PGB class. Very feminine with quality & type, smart outline showing her overall balance, sweet head & soft expression, strong well muscled neck into well laid shoulders & topline to good tailset, excellent angles & depth to well laid shoulders & topline to good tailset, excellent angles & depth to forechest, good body condition & ribs well back into short loin with neat tuck-up, coarse well conditioned liver ticked coat, straight boned legs & tight feet. It is a shame the owner cannot handle this nice bitch to advantage as it is so easy to lose the good points. A sound bitch once settled into stride.

VB (5) 1 Gardiner’s Kilnrae Gretel, at 9 1⁄2 years this bitch has still retained her type & quality plus being so sound on the move, presents a lovely picture on the move with her overall balance & correct points. Just starting to shows her age. Her eyes are dark & bright, good neck, shoulders& well angulated front, good depth of chest & a body of substance, well ribbed into a short loin, nice tuck-up, well positioned elbows, straight well boned legs,

Carina Smillie Memorial Special Award Classes
Judge: Vicky Brown

I was honoured to judge these classes at the society’s first open show.

J 1 Beverley’s Vinita Lil Miss Jenni Jai, 6 months puppy bitch, short backed, standing over plenty of ground, on very best of feet, excellent coat texture, in good order, good sloping shoulder & well ambulated at rear, movement excellent for such a young puppy, reach & drive, very together. I would just prefer more foreface to balance her head, hopefully this will come; 2 Flaherty & Reddyhough’s Isara Kurzhaar Weiser, liked this 11 months puppy a lot. Very different style of dog to 1. Liked his head, lovely clean lines, again short backed & standing over his ground on good tight feet, correct coat in good order. My style of dog, but needs to settle on the move, should have a bright future.

O 1 Taylor’s Koolwaters On Moonlight Bay over Pelenrise, lovely bitch, hard to fault, just coming into her own. Balanced & feminine, fits the Standard to a T, moved really well. In my opinion she should go all the way. Seems like too little to say, but she is good all through. Best Overall; 2 Stefman’s Indijazz Grand Designer, dog who I have liked before, & still do. Short backed, good feet, correct topline, carried on the move, lovely dark eye & melting expression.

Ch 1 Rose’s Kavacanne Gift Of The Gab, like this bitch very much indeed & have awarded her top honours before. She is my style of GSP but she wasn’t as fluid on the move as usual; 2 Whitehouse’s Kazanpaul Boubon Cream, 10 years bitch, I think she’s beautiful, I wish I’d been able to judge her when she was younger. I’ve admired her from ringside & it was a pleasure to go over her.
